Spirituality could simply be defined as the search for the Sacred. Spirituality has the potential to be both a significant resource and a challenge in treatment work. This can play out in our closest relationships such as our relationship with bodies, sexuality, gender and family to a universal, transcendent space. Challenges can contribute to feelings of shame and self-doubt while spiritual resources can assist with facing and overcoming significant obstacles in life. Spiritually integrated care is a way to honor these sacred relationships by interweaving them into our sessions.
Although I enjoy working with individuals on a multitude of issues of spirituality, I have a particular calling to work with individuals who have been harmed by organized religion. I have seen this harm play out even in individuals who were not raised religious or currently identify as religious due to the connection between a particular set of religious values and dominant culture.
Often the result of this harm is a disconnect with our own spirituality which I believe is a fundamental part of who we are whether you believe in a Divine Presence or identify as an atheist. As mentioned above, this can play in our relationships such as how we view our bodies, the Earth, and a general sense of meaninglessness or disconnect in our lives. Reclaiming a relationship with our spirituality and sacredness can be a part of the liberatory healing process.
I offer a LGBTQ+ affirming space.
I work with individuals of a variety of faith backgrounds and those who identify as atheist/agnostic.
